I consider my life going really well when I can end my long trout season on the McCloud, dip my toe into some steelhead water and then escape to someplace warm and fish the salt. Personal fishing before my Winter steelhead season starts in January.
This year Nicole and I got invited to stay at a house in Turks and Caicos to do a self guided no boat mission. Something new to figure out. Bonefish huh? My thrill for fishing in full recharge. We worked the tides on three different flats, for a couple weeks and learned some rhythms. The fish were easily spooked but more easily seen on the calm sunny days. Leading them 12-15 feet seemed to be the trick. Windy days were obviously tough to spot fish but if you did you could land your cast damn near on top of them. There were days I didn’t see anything and days of few shots, it’s the kind of fishing I enjoy. Hmmm, I would love to guide a few of my favorite clients on one of these flats. Just to be a salt guide for a day, or a season, or… Hard to believe my mind wandered to work but it did. Can’t I just enjoy this as my time. Checking the real estate prices sobered me up and allowed me to fish in the moment. As it so happens I was fishing in paradise.
Thanks for checking out my new blog. Best Fishes! John.
